The session you can't see

When parallel OpenClaw setups work well enough to grow, visibility becomes the next problem. Names beat dashboards.

You have four OpenClaw sessions running. Maybe five. One is a coding agent you started an hour ago. One is doing something with your cron jobs. There might be a third that finished but never cleaned up. You are not sure.

This came up on r/openclaw today: a heavy user running parallel ACP sessions plus a stack of cron jobs, realizing they can no longer keep track in their head. "What tasks did I assign with ACP? How many crons are running now? Is it eating into my token budget?"

That is not a complaint about OpenClaw. It is what happens when the system works well enough that you start using more of it.

The problem is not that you have too many agents. The problem is that they are all anonymous. One instance looks like another. A session you started yesterday is indistinguishable from one you started this morning. When something goes wrong, you are not debugging a named agent with a clear job. You are debugging a process.

People are already building around this. Someone posted a custom "WebOS dashboard" for managing their OpenClaw instances this week. Someone else rigged up monitoring for their cron jobs. These are reasonable hacks, but they are also symptoms of the same gap.

The underlying fix is simpler than a dashboard: agents should have names before they have jobs. Name your dev agent. Name your personal agent. Give them distinct identities before you start assigning work. When you can see "dev session, started 9am, three active crons" versus a generic process ID, you make better decisions about what to spin up and when.

This is the same principle behind good project management. The overhead of naming things is small. The cost of losing track of them is not.
